The Russian forest industry: declining wood production and emerging opportunities in bioenergy

نویسندگان

چکیده

The aim of the study is to describe main trends and possibilities in Russian forestry. Based on statistical data, authors analyze general forest industry like woodworking, roundwood wood pellets production. Russia's output roundwood, sawnwood, pellets, wood-based panels veneer sheets has been growing steadily over past 5 years. production only two panel types – hardboard other fiberboard either absent or decline. results include decline export growth rates panels, exports. room grow its products. This requires technology upgrading, which could be facilitated by proactive government policies. Keywords: industry, woodworking bioenergy, Russia

Opportunities for microbiologists in an emerging industry.

Many industries are reshaping their business strategy with respect to research and development (R&D). Research laboratories are being shut down due to poor long-term cost-benefit ratios and are instead relying on university research projects to keep the innovation pipeline open in order to obtain new products and services. At the same time, lower labor costs are shifting production activities t...

Landslide Hazard Zonation with Frequency Ratio Method (Case Study: Forest of Mazandaran Wood and Paper Industry)

The Landslide is one of the natural hazards that causes a lot of mortal and financial losses in high-altitude and seismic mountainous areas annually. Considering the importance of roads as a pillar of sustainable forest management in this study, we have tried to estimate the sensitivity of landslide occurrence in 8 forestry series with using frequency ratio approach. Initially, the slip positio...

Regional carbon dioxide implications of forest bioenergy production

Policies are being developed worldwide to increase bioenergy production as a substitution for fossil fuel to mitigate fossil fuelderived carbon dioxide emissions, the main cause of anthropogenic global climate change4,5. However, the capacity for forest sector bioenergy production to offset carbon dioxide emissions is limited by fossil fuel emissions from this activity (harvest, transport, and ...

Cellulose factories: advancing bioenergy production from forest trees.

Fast-growing, short-rotation forest trees, such as Populus and Eucalyptus, produce large amounts of cellulose-rich biomass that could be utilized for bioenergy and biopolymer production. Major obstacles need to be overcome before the deployment of these genera as energy crops, including the effective removal of lignin and the subsequent liberation of carbohydrate constituents from wood cell wal...

Forest-based Bioenergy in the Eurasian Context

This study analyses the Russian forest biomass-based bioenergy sector. It is shown that presently – although given abundant resources – the share of heat and electricity from biomass is very minor. With the help of 2 IIASA model, future green-field bioenergy plants are identified in a geographically explicit way. Results indicate that by only using 3.3% of the total wood removals, twice as much...
